New Years Resolution FAIL:: Setting Goals

On December 31st, I sat on my couch and wrote down everything that I was going to change about my life starting on January 1st. I created resolutions to tone up my body, eat heathy, organize my life, save more money, pay off my debt, etc. I ended up with 10 things on my list and spent the next TWO HOURS scrambling to come up with a plan to start accomplishing all of my goals the next morning.

Before I knew it, it was January 2nd and I had yet to get off the couch. How in the WORLD did I screw this up on the FIRST DAY?! All of my bad habits of 2015 snuck into 2016 without me even noticing. Then I thought, "It's okay I will start counting the 'new year' on January 3rd when I get back home to Texas. Yeah, that sounds good! You know what, I'll just start on January 4th since it will be a Monday. Start fresh on a Monday!"

You all either think I'm crazy or you were having the same mental conflict.

Here I am, a CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT ENGINEER, making new years’ resolutions. The irony! I studied continuous improvement for 4.5 years and I didn't even think to apply this to my everyday life.

Teaching Moment:

Continuous improvement (CI) is an ongoing effort to improve something whether it be processes, products, or services. Kaizen is a Japanese philosophy that conceptualizes the idea that big results come from many small changes accumulated over time.
