When I get ready to workout, I have a series of phases that I have to go through before I can even make it to to the gym.
Phase 1- Akgnowledgement
I get home from work and tell myself, "Kirstin, you need to go to the gym!" I plan out what I'm going to wear and what area I'm going to focus on for the day. I’m on track for greatness!
Phase 2- Laziness & Excuses
I start fumbling around while trying to get ready. I can't find my headphones, my phone isn't charged, I get hungry, and it's too cold outside. The excuses and laziness start to kick in.
Phase 3- Guilt
I sit on the couch and start scrolling through social media, only to see my close friends on Instasnap showing their improvements from their consistency in the gym. I then think about how much I'm letting myself down by not giving effort to reach my goals.
Phase 4- Force
After the guilt phase, I pick myself up off of the couch (sometimes I need an external force). I realize that I'm paying for a gym membership and for every day that I don't go, I am wasting time and money. (I don't like wasting money!) Off to the gym I go!
Phase 5- Beyonce
I always start my workouts on the treadmill. When I feel myself starting to struggle, I have to turn to Beyonce. (Btw, I was most fit when she dropped Lemonade!) While I'm listening to Bey, I think about how effortlessly she dances full out with all of her energy, also while flawlessly singing her lyrics. I channel my inner Bey and act like I'm on stage performing with her. I try to make the treadmill look easy while running to the tempo of the song. Beyonce doesn't quit in the middle of her performance. Beyonce doesn't look tired. Beyonce sings her songs with sex appeal. At this point, people around start looking at me CRAZY, but I don’t mind. Several miles later I get off the treadmill feeling AMAZING! On to the next!
Thanks Bey!
